The SLMSB Series Metal Limit Switches are a side-entry variant of the metal housing limit switch range, distinguished by a cable conduit entry that is positioned on the side of the switch housing rather than at the bottom — providing a cable routing option that is essential in applications where the installation position does not allow for a bottom cable entry without the cable being damaged, obstructed, or bent beyond its minimum bend radius by adjacent machine structures or the machine floor. Available in four actuator variants, the SLMSB series delivers the same heavy-duty metal housing robustness as the SLMB series with the additional installation flexibility of lateral cable entry.

The importance of cable entry orientation in limit switch installation is often underestimated until the installation engineer confronts a position where the standard bottom-entry switch cannot be installed without routing the cable through an impossible bend, exposing it to mechanical damage from a nearby moving element, or routing it through a machine structure that the installation direction does not permit. Side-entry cable routing resolves these installation geometry challenges by allowing the cable to exit the switch horizontally, parallel to the machine surface on which the switch is mounted — a routing direction that frequently aligns more naturally with the cable trunking and conduit paths of the machine's wiring infrastructure.

The SLMSB actuator variants provide coverage for the primary cam geometry requirements of metal housing limit switch applications. The A1 variant provides a standard roller lever for general cam-operated sensing. The B4 variant offers a fork roller actuator for rod and shaft position sensing. The E3 variant provides an adjustable rod lever for applications requiring actuator reach adjustment. The F6 variant delivers an adjustable roller lever for variable cam height accommodation — the same functional capabilities as the SLMB series, in the side-entry housing format.

The metal housing provides the same structural robustness, thermal performance, and EMC shielding benefits as the SLMB series, making the SLMSB series the correct specification for heavy industrial applications with side-entry cable routing requirements. IP protection, contact block specification, and IEC 60947-5-1 compliance are maintained to the same standard as the full SLMB series.
