Contact Block Technologies for Every Industrial Push Button Wiring and Application Requirement
Variants covered: Gen Next Contact Blocks · Cage Clamp Contact Blocks · PCB Mounted Contact Blocks
Contact Blocks are the electrical switching elements that mount behind push button and switch actuators to provide the electrical contact opening and closing function that sends control signals when the button is pressed. Esbee offers three distinct contact block technologies — Gen Next, Cage Clamp, and PCB Mounted — each optimised for a specific push button platform, wiring method, or installation application, ensuring that the correct contact block is available for every push button wiring requirement across the range of industrial control applications.
Gen Next Contact Blocks are the switching elements designed for the Gen Next modular push button and enclosure system, providing the snap-action contact performance, contact rating, and mechanical engagement interface specific to the Gen Next platform architecture. Gen Next contact blocks deliver the reliable switching performance expected from Esbee's current-generation push button platform — consistent contact resistance, reliable snap-action transition at the defined actuation point, and long cycle life appropriate for the high-frequency push button control applications that industrial machines accumulate across production shifts. The Gen Next contact block is specified whenever Gen Next actuators and housings are used — whether in standalone push buttons, Gen Next station assemblies, or custom Gen Next enclosure builds.
Cage Clamp Contact Blocks provide push-in (cage clamp) terminal connections rather than conventional screw terminals — eliminating the screwdriver and torque management steps of screw terminal wiring to deliver faster, more consistent, and vibration-resistant electrical terminations. The cage clamp mechanism grips the inserted conductor with a spring-loaded clamp that requires only the conductor to be stripped and inserted to create a secure, gas-tight electrical connection. This connection method significantly reduces panel wiring time per contact block compared to screw terminals, provides consistent termination quality independent of the installer's torque judgement, and delivers a vibration-resistant connection that cannot loosen over time in the way that improperly torqued screw terminals can. For high-volume panel assembly operations and for installations where vibration loosening of terminals is a concern, cage clamp contact blocks are the technically and commercially superior wiring solution.
PCB Mounted Contact Blocks are designed for direct soldering or press-fit mounting onto printed circuit boards in push button panel assemblies where the switching function is integrated into the PCB rather than wired through discrete terminal connections. As panel control systems increasingly integrate PCB-based electronics for display, communication, and smart function capabilities, the need for push button contact blocks that interface directly with PCB traces rather than through wired terminals has grown. PCB mounted contact blocks enable push button switching to be incorporated into PCB-based control panels with the most compact, direct, and lowest-resistance electrical interface available — contributing to the miniaturisation and integration of modern industrial panel electronics.
